For this puzzle, I am providing the introductory paragraphs (either the first or second paragraph of the introduction, depending on which is more interesting) of twenty ________ for Dummies books.  All you have to do is provide the titles of the books.  In some cases, I have removed words that would give away the answers.  I have no idea how difficult these are to find online, because I wrote this puzzle completely offline.  A perfect score will list all twenty titles!

Here are the intros:

In this game, I ran movie synopses through online translators, then translated the synopses back into English. Your job was to identify the great films described by these crazy synopses!

Here are the answers!

Here are the answers and results for the Big Game 2, Round 1.

As most of you figured out, the letters in the third column were stock-exchange ticker abbreviations, and your task was to match the actor with the parent company of the product he or she plugged in television commercials.

In this puzzle, you were asked to find twenty-three answers and then to group them in three categories, providing the one missing answer for a total of eight answers per category.  I was quite pleased with this puzzle.  It seemed like the kind of puzzle I'd enjoy doing if someone else wrote it.

First, I'll give the answers to the questions.

A Few Ch-Ch-Changes! PDF Print E-mail

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first games of ScrivTriv.com. I was pleased with the quality of my work and excited by the participation! There were a few problems from my end that I am going to address here; some of them will not matter to you, the competitor, in the least, but some will at least be somewhat relevant.

  1. The Google graph was really cool because it allowed me to update scores in a Google spreadsheet, click a button, and see the graph change on the website automatically to reflect new scores. However, it was unwieldy, not fitting comfortably in either the sidebars nor the top of the page, and it was aesthetically displeasing. That font was too huge and too ugly, and I disliked the white background. These things are all fixable, but those fixes are currently beyond my skills, so I'm dumping the graph for now. I will explore other options or teach myself to create my own Google object that satisfies my needs.
  2. Was I the only one who found the names of the separate games confusing? I need something instantly recognizable yet not stupid, so for now I'm renaming the Main Game and Monday Game the Big Game and the Little Game.
  3. I love the SmackTalk area, but I think it's just slightly too rigid for me, so I will be installing a different forum plugin when I can find one that I like.
  4. I'm still exploring feed options, but until I find something that works, I will be happy to email people when new questions are posted and when results are posted. I don't think I will email the actual questions, because I need some traffic (especially when clicked from your bookmark sites, blogrolls, or other links), but drop me a note at scrivener at scrivtriv dot com if you would like to be emailed.
I'll add to this list if I think of more stuff. Thanks for hanging in with me through my illness, and thanks for playing!
